Was There a Better Way?
Congregants threw him out violently. It was as if he was a heap of refuse! When one listened to the reasons, it was justifiable, but the approach they degenerated into, though it produced the result they needed, it did not glorify Christ. On the contrary his name was blasphemed. The man was publicly disgraced and it is the people of the world who came to bring calm!
It is unavoidable that every believer in positions of authority will encounter evil among God’s children, even within the ranks of leadership. And if it is inevitable that the church leader should “Drive out the mocker, and out goes strife; quarrels and insults are ended. (Pr.22:10), this ought to be done with Prudence because It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way. (Pr.19:2).
Let’s honor the image of God in the wayward person. All of us falter.
As Christians, the default position of our hearts is love. Whatever way we may try to help a fallen or falling brother, Its stay firm to the truth but with love. Truth operates best within the confines of love. Love never fails. Love doesn’t keep quiet on evil. On the contrary it exposes it. God is love God is firm. When we are truly loving, we are also firm.
God always has redemption on his mind. We are the vessels he will use to display his redemption. How shall we restore the one we have disgraced? Doesn’t it require that we ask for forgiveness first? If it requires, have we positioned our hearts well?
We must exhibit love. We always remember that this broken life we are dealing with was created in the image of God. Let’s handle this broken life in the very way we ourselves would like to be handled.
Even in the heat of disagreement, let’s posture our hearts well for “these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. “1Cor 13:13
