Thanksgiving

|
  1. What would be your attitude after you lose everything else?
  2. Is it even possible to keep praising God and being thankful and keep our integrity and righteousness when we have been shaken?

Thanksgiving is an act of Worship to God.

Lev.7:12;

Psa.107:22NKJV And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving and declare his works with rejoicing.”

Ps.116:17NKJV “I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord”

Lev.22:29NLT “When you a thanksgiving offering to the Lord, sacrifice it properly so you will be accepted.”

Thanksgiving is our lifestyle:

Col.2:6-7 MSG 6My Counsel for you is simple and straightforward: just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now [live] him. 7You’re deeply rooted in hum. You’re well-constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start [living] it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a sign of our dependence on God:

See the Leper who came back to say thank you Luke.17:12

Many people just walk, they don’t recall the benefits. Ps. 103:3

Thanksgiving is a gateway

Thanksgiving is the door that releases our worship, a place of breakthrough/ the point of victory: Thanksgiving releases us into a dimension grace to praise, in the courts of God:

Acts: 16 Paul & Silas; Ps 100:4

When we are going through trouble, it’s one of the moments that are so difficult to worship God. But Paul exhorts us to count it pure joy. It keeps our attention on Jesus when we give thanks at all times.  Problems always tend to magnify themselves in our eyes so that our faith is weakened, we take our eyes off that “big” problem and then Jesus is magnified instead.

James. 1:2; 12 when we persevere through hardships we are telling God that we trust His ways.

Ps.16:8 NIV “I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

Our Response

A thankful heart is an obedient heart. When we go through unpleasant times God is testing to see our obedience, we need to come to him with a thankful heart, See Abraham. Gen.22:17:18

He obeyed the instruction of God. The posture and attitude of his heart was leaning towards God.

We are to serve God with a thankful attitude and heart not grumbling Christians: Col.3:17 MSGLet every detail in your lives-words, actions, whatever-be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.”

  • Job (God is counting on us to keep the integrity and amidst the ruins) 2:3

Offer thanksgiving to God as a command. Psa.50:14 NKJV “Offer to God thanksgiving, And pay your vows to the Most High.”

Keep thanking God

Quit complaining, Caught yourself complaining, don’t despise what is in your possession?

Jesus himself gave thanks John.6:1-15

  • The Little he had was multiplied (Everybody had something to eat)

Thanksgiving is not about much but having the right attitude towards what we have but the available resource and how we use it to the glory of God. Even when there was excess left over of 12baskets Jesus gave a command that the disciples gather it. It teaches us that nothing should be left to waste because we have excess.

2Cor.4:7-15 this is written so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God
